North Yorkshire Child Therapy
| North Yorkshire Child Therapy (NYCT) provides a specialist psychological therapy service to children and young people aged 5 to 18 years who are experiencing emotional difficulties.
We offer a range of services delivered by qualified, accredited Practitioners, who, after thorough, professional assessments, create tailored packages of therapeutic support for children, young people and, where appropriate, their parents/carers. Practitioners are fully accredited by the professional Counselling and Psychotherapy bodies, including the UKCP, HPC and BACP, and registered with the Counselling Directory. The service is available at the Kirkbymoorside Natural Health Centre in the old market town of Kirkbymoorside, at the edge of the North York Moors.
The document pionts out that 50% of lifetime mental illness starts before the age of 14, and that possibly half is avoidable with early intervention. At NYCT children are offered therapy within a gentle supportive environment, and this enables them to regain resilience, confidence and self esteem. Evidence for the need to support children through periods of stress is highlighted by the Goverments 'New Horizons' Document. This set out a plan for future mental health services emphasising the importance of early intervention to improve health and wellbeing.
